Markets: Iraq, Jordan & GCC expansion underway
The Challenge
Iraq's healthcare system is overwhelmed. Hospital queues stretch for hours, specialist access is limited outside Baghdad, and home healthcare is coordinated through phone calls, WhatsApp, and word of mouth. There is no centralised platform for booking, tracking, or managing home medical services. For elderly patients or those with mobility challenges, a hospital visit for a routine blood test means arranging transport, waiting in crowded facilities, and navigating a system that wasn't designed for them. The market needed a digital platform: but not an English first app translated into Arabic. It needed something built from the ground up for Iraqi patients and providers.
“Saleem is a modern medical application designed to help the people of Iraq access high quality home healthcare services. We provide a comprehensive platform that connects patients with qualified healthcare providers to deliver various medical services in their homes.”Saleem App
What We Built
A two sided healthcare marketplace : patients book home healthcare services (doctor visits, nursing, physiotherapy, lab tests, medical imaging, eye and wound care), and providers manage visits, create orders, and track patients through a dedicated dashboard. Full Arabic RTL from day one, cross platform deployment across iOS, Android, macOS, and Apple Vision, with encrypted data transit and GDPR aligned data deletion. The platform includes a medical directory of Baghdad hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, and labs: making it useful even outside the booking flow.
Doctor visits at home
General practitioners and specialists dispatched to the patient's address: booking, scheduling, and provider matching handled entirely in app.
Home nursing services
Professional nursing care delivered at home. IV therapy, wound dressing, injections, and post operative monitoring: all tracked through the patient's order history.
Physiotherapy sessions
In home physiotherapy with session tracking, progress notes, and provider continuity. Patients book recurring sessions without leaving the app.
Lab tests & sample collection
At home sample collection for blood work, urinalysis, and diagnostic panels. Results delivered digitally through the platform.
Medical imaging
Echo, Doppler, and ultrasound services at home. Portable imaging equipment brought by certified technicians with results uploaded to the patient record.
Eye & wound care
Specialised eye examinations and wound care services delivered at the patient's location: reducing hospital visits for routine follow ups.
Outcome
Saleem has reached 50,000+ downloads on Google Play, with availability across iOS and Android. The platform was selected as one of only two innovators by Zain Iraq to advance to the global acceleration phase in Silicon Valley through the Zain Great Idea programme (2025), and won first place at the StartUp Bahrain Pitch series (2024). Expansion into Jordan is underway through a collaboration with Al-Abdali Hospital, with GCC markets as the next horizon.

Schedule a callProvider side + platform capabilities
Two sided marketplace. One unified platform.
The provider dashboard and platform infrastructure that makes 50,000+ patient bookings possible: visit management, real time dispatch, Arabic first design, and cross platform deployment.
01
Visit management dashboard
Providers view and manage scheduled visits, update service status in real time, and record clinical details: the operational backbone of the two sided marketplace.
02
Order creation & dispatch
Healthcare providers create new orders for patients directly from the app. Scheduling, assignment, and dispatch managed through a single interface.
03
Patient management
Track patients across visits, review service history, and maintain continuity of care: provider side CRM purpose built for home healthcare.
04
Family member management
Patients add family members and request services on their behalf. One account manages healthcare for the entire household.
05
Multi address booking
Save multiple addresses for faster booking. Home, office, relative's house: the platform routes providers to wherever the patient needs care.
06
Medical directory
Browse hospitals, clinics, pharmacies, and labs in Baghdad. The directory layer makes the app useful even outside the booking flow.

03
Data encryption in transit

Patients track application status, view past visits, and see upcoming appointments. Provider location and ETA surfaced during active service requests.
06
Two sided marketplace engine
Patient facing booking and provider facing operations unified in a single platform. Commission based revenue model with automated settlement.
Market expansion
Iraq → Jordan → GCC
The MENA playbook
Saleem proved the model in Iraq's most challenging market: Baghdad. Now the platform is expanding into Jordan through a collaboration with Al-Abdali Hospital, with GCC markets as the next horizon. The Zain Great Idea programme provides Silicon Valley mentorship and international exposure to fuel that expansion.
Positioned alongside platforms like DOFIED, DrCube, Matic, and Health360 as a pioneer in Iraq's digital healthcare transformation.
Why this matters
Building a healthcare marketplace in Iraq isn't like launching in a mature market. Digital trust has to be earned, provider networks built from scratch, and the entire concept of app based healthcare normalised. 50,000+ downloads in that environment is proof of product market fit that accelerator judges and regional partners recognise.

Taha founded Saleem to solve a problem he saw firsthand: Iraqi patients who needed healthcare at home but had no digital platform to find it. Selected by Zain Iraq as one of only two founders to advance to the global acceleration phase in Silicon Valley, he is building what the Zain Great Idea programme described as “a health tech venture offering innovative digital healthcare solutions, from telemedicine and homecare applications to medical devices, all designed to improve patient access and service delivery across Iraq.”
Lessons for enterprise, brands, scaleups & VC backed founders
What it takes to build HealthTech in an emerging market.
01
Build Arabic first, not Arabic after
RTL support retrofitted onto an English app always feels wrong. Saleem was designed Arabic first: the typography, the flow, the cultural context. That's why 50,000 Iraqi users adopted it.
02
Win the accelerator, then the market
Zain Great Idea and StartUp Bahrain gave Saleem Silicon Valley mentorship and GCC visibility before spending a dollar on marketing. Awards are distribution channels in emerging markets.
03
Two sided marketplaces need the supply side first
Provider tools (visit management, order creation, patient tracking) came before consumer features. Without provider liquidity, the prettiest patient app is an empty storefront.
04
Bootstrap when the market isn't ready for VC
Iraq's HealthTech ecosystem is pre venture. Saleem bootstrapped to 50K+ downloads, proved product market fit, then attracted accelerator attention. The traction came before the pitch deck.
